rate: avg: This is my rating for the sagem f@st 1704 router. On a scale of one to ten I'd give it a solid- 22 practically useless to anyone that does anything at all on the internet like set up a web server or remotely access your computer I have been trying for 3 weeks to access my security cameras remotely with absolutely no assistance from the windstream screwballs that put this crap out for people to use. Every other router I have used before could handle this simple task in 3 minutes. But with windstreams sagem f@st 1704 router the proper settings dont work and I am just about ready to drop the damn thing into a two liter bottle of coca cola and tell windstream i dont have a clue why it doesnt work at all anymore. I just got a SAGEM F@st 1704 after using a 2-Wire 2701HG. I use a couple telnet-based apps online and before I noticed that with the 2-Wire 2701HG, it seemingly purged idle data connections in about 10-15 minutes. Mildly annoying, but acceptable behavior for a modem/router combo. With the Sagem F@st 1704, I'm losing such connections _in less than 30 seconds_ which is just simply absurd. I'm tempted to go back to an old Speedstream 4200 I have laying around; it is a modem-only and I can use my Netgear router as the NAT/DHCP instead. With Diablo 3 out, apparently there's a ping issue that is caused by this; I get disconnected every few minutes unless I keep a chat channel open (and have to be subjected to the stupidity in said channel) just to keep playing the game. I'll try setting the Sagem to bridge mode, but I've read complaints from other users saying that it won't stick and the thing comes out of bridge mode frequently, causing disconnects. I have been loosing internet very bad, they say its my modem 4200, i had lost over a 100 times in two week. Evertime it clouds up it goes out and if its raining don't have any, so they sent me the Sagemcom 1704. Now its the same and my 3G Micro cell won't work, it keeps kicking me off and locking my phone so we have work on it for 4 days and i finally put my 4200 back on and my phone works fine. There going to have to work on there internet or phone lines or something, been very agravating. wireless range is terrible This maybe the worst experience with a modem/router combination I have ever had. I f offered this do not take it, keep old equipment. Drops wireless devices on a regular basis, particularly I PAD and Printer. Unfortunately depending on your internet provider you may have to learn how to naviagate the router site to figure out how to keep at least some of your wireless devices going. it;s more a request than a comment .i have lost the cd.rom d;installation du modem fast 1704 .and i want to know how to deal with such a problem;thank you for helping. This is the worst router I have ever owned. Even 2 wire 2701hg is better than this crap. Wireless is useless on this. Is there a way to disable the wire here and use a different wireless router? I can't seem to get the configuration correct. [email protected] if you can help Have had the Sagecom 1704 F@ST for a little over a month. Prior to that I had a 2400 series Windstream Modem / my own personal Router. NEVER disconnected on me, and the speeds were manageable as I live far out in the country and am only allotted 3mb/s up and down load. This Sagecom is HORRIBLE!!! I mean Constant D/C'ed, Slow speeds causing Netflix to have to render every 10 minutes, and fluctuating download speeds reach friggn 40kb/s..wtf is that about? Having the same problem with a Sagem Fast 1704 on windstream. Typically gets 0.40mb down, half that up. On rare occasions it works fine, full 3mb. Phone company was here yesterday, tested the line (6086kbs.i seen it myself on the tester), looked in the box. The phone box (outside) filter had a bent wires on the service line plug, the filter was replaced. Internet worked perfect the rest of the day. Next day its back to 0.40mbs. Snowed the night before, could it be moisture in the box? OR. Does the phone company have me on a speed cap again? Internet support tech told me it was on a cap when I scheduled service. Said they lowered it to keep it connected. Modem or Moisture? Gonna try another modem. have my known good netopia. Will let you know :) should paste a link for f@st 1704 software update Lacking range, Over all tho very good modem/router combo no problems with any anything other then the range. Smartphone,tablet,2 PC ,2 xbox 360, and printer all work fine with no issues The SAGEMCOM F@ST 1704N is garbage. If you don't mind signal loss at regular intervals and a signal strength that requires you to be within arms reach of the wireless router its fine. Sir When i give my IPAdress like 192.168.1.1 in the address bar a samll window open and i give the User name:admin & Password:admin but he cannot accept it. Plzzz tell me what i do. I have installation this modem a few days age i want to change my wifi password. You need to do a hard reset. Unplug it for a little while or use a pin to push the reset button in back for a few seconds. I'm no expert, but this 192.168.1.1 you are using already indicates to me that something is wrong with the modem-router's connection: you should have a default IP address ending in something else. (With Windstream it is 192.168.254.254) Best! Horrible. Heating problem even in freezing winter. Dont waste your money on this It is crap. 192.168.254.254 admin admin Bill I have had with this modem and windstream support. The support people does not want to help me with my VPN issues. My laptop works fine with WI-FI at other locs but not with this SAGECOM crap. Considering dropping Windstream and going with other ISP. I have experienced a similar problem..Internet dropping/timing out every 5-10 minutes. I am a relatively new Windstream customer who started with the F@st 1704 modem..I actually have three of these modems now. I have spent HOURS on the phone with Windstream.. at least 40 calls over the last 3 or 4 months, and they have sent out at least 7-8 techs. What ever the other variables are (switch/pin/wiring issues or number of devices connected), the problem is the F@st modem! A friend gave me an old Windstream 2Wire 2701hg; I bought a power cord at eBay; and I have not had a single drop since I plugged it in. I was also told that the AT&T branded 2Wire will work with Windstream's DSL service, so I am buying another 2Wire as a backup. I also made a record of the Windstream 2Wire settings in case I have to go to the backup. I am in a rural area, and the only speed offered here is 3Mbps. With the 2Wire and only a couple of devices connected wirelessly, I am getting pings of 50 -70 and d/l speeds between 2.5 and 2.9 (according to Ookla Speedtest app on Galaxy S4 smartphone). Of course, connecting additional devces, Dropbox uploads, online backup, app updates, etc. slow it down a bit and need to be managed, but it is acceptable speed, and IT DOESN'T DROP!!! On the occasion that I need higher speed, I use my cell phone hotspot. Windstream could save a LOT of their money and my time if they had decent modems. Reviewing the SageCom F@ST 1704: It's been a solid DSL adapter over the last couple of years. There have been some slight outages/drops over the last month, but that has been due to Windstream networking issues. I confirmed this because it was happening at work and a friend's; both are Windstream DSL subscribers. One has the old Siemens 4100/4200 adapter and the other has the newer 1704N model. The wireless range isn't great. I'd purchased a used wi-fi router to run on the internal network which got me a few extra yards coverage. While Windstream is offering newer high-speed packages, I'm going to see if I can go ahead and keep this model versus having to upgrade. They indicate I can get 16Mbps in my area while this model adapter will supposedly support 21Mbps based on specs here on Speed Guide. i want just update file modem 1704N plzzzzz help i`m sorry to say that the password that was given is being hacked. i never had anyone hack my sites ever but y`all passwords are so sorry. i feel bad cause i`m paying for your crap This router is trash. I've been trying in vain for weeks to diagnose my connectivity issues thinking something might have been up with my drivers or something. But no. This router's actually just awful. The ethernet ports refuse to work, it disconnects me whenever it feels like it. My computer's close to the router, but everyone else in the house complains about its poor range. If you think the issue is with your computer like I thought was the case, it's almost certainly not. The router is a complete disappointment. signal quality / range is crap . only working 10 meter range , i.e you must have to be in the same room. else be prepare for continuous signal drop and DC. |
